Please Help Our Communities! Support the Fight Against Cancer!

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with No comments
Click below to watch a video about why Relay for Life is so important. Show you care by making a donation today. You will be supporting me as I walk in memory of my uncle who died of oral cancer. He hardly had a chance at life because he died at the age of 6. Because of cancer, my mother never knew her own brother. She was born ten years later. My husband's grandfather, who was very close to us, died of lung cancer. My husband and I will walk in memory of him. Please share your story and make a small donation if possible...every dollar counts! To thank you, everyone who donates and leaves a comment about it will receive a free item of their choice from my TpT store (Teaching Tales). Thank you!!!

Do you do Every Day Counts Math?

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 4 comments
Hey everyone!  I was wondering if your school does Every Day Counts Math and if it is part of your math class or another time in the day?  We have to make time to fit it in but I feel that it is so important!  It helps students to review so many basic skills that they need in their daily math work.  So, for anyone out there who may/may not teach this, how does it work for you or what do you do to be sure your students are remembering these vital skills?

Earth Day Fonts

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 7 comments
I feel very passionate about Earth Day and one way to make your Earth Day printables look good is to use special fonts!  I found these cute fonts over at Font Space and the best part is...THEY'RE FREE!  You need to check to see if they are suitable for personal or commercial use (there is a mix of both) and then begin creating!  One of my favorites is found here:
If you want to download this one, click on the pic and go to the lower left hand side of the page.  There will be a gray button with a green arrow that says, "Download".  I hope you make some cute classroom resources with these fonts!

Spring Break is Coming to a Close...

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 4 comments
Well, the family and I just got back from Ocean City, MD and it was a blast!  We had breakfast with the Easter bunny, walked on the beach, munched on some junk food on the boardwalk, and shopped!  Whew!  I had so much fun and the weather was P-E-R-F-E-C-T!!!  I was super excited for vacation and now I am counting down the ONE DAY I have left until school is back in session.  Don't get me wrong, I miss the kiddies and can't wait to get back to teaching but of course, I will miss my lazy days in pj's on the couch!  The night before I go back from break, I like to take a nice, warm bubble bath just to relax myself and get in the mindset of returning to work.  What do you do to relax before your long weekends and breaks are over?  Comment below!  I think we all would love to gather these ideas because the one thing teachers need to learn is HOW TO RELAX!!!  Oh, and if you don't hear from me, know that I am busy trying all of your relaxation suggestions! :0)

The full moon was gorgeous over the ocean on Friday night! I must've taken twenty pictures of this that evening!

The Easter Bunny was cute but she kept telling my
little guy she could pick him up if only her HEAD
WOULDN'T FALL OFF!!! LOL! (She was young!)
We won PAPA SMURF and...
SOMEBODY had to carry him all the way down the
boardwalk!  People kept commenting the smurf was
as big as he was! :0)  He has his mother's determination!
After a tiring, fun-filled weekend, the little guy was
out along with the rest of his company...Papa and George!

Make Science Fun!

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 4 comments

The first graders had so much fun racing liquids in science class!  They couldn't wait to see which liquid would win!  After they all dried, they BEGGED me to take them home!  Of course, I obliged- hopefully, the parents don't hate me! :0)  If you want your class to have fun like we did, just click on the pic below and download your FREE COPY!  It's had lot a positive feedback!  Have fun!

Reading Strategies FREEBIE

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with No comments
I find that these come in handy when reading with students!  I copy and laminate the arrows and use them to point out when we've used strategies in a big book.  I also put magnets on them and used them on my chalkboard as a reminder of the strategies!  The students loved them so much, they asked for their own mini-arrows so I made those as well!  Check them out and see if your students love them as much as mine do!  Click below to print yourself a copy!

Spring Break!

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 1 comment
The little guy is taking after mommy after all!  He has been spending his Spring break playing outside, coloring, and surfing the web (just kidding).  He has spent countless hours on his two favorite websites:  www.seussville.com and http://pbskids.org/ .  This has given mommy some time to work on her blog (yay!) so I rewarded him with a trip to McDonald's!   All of this is much better than last week when Sebastian woke up screaming that his neck hurt and we ended up taking him to the emergency room.  Coming along with us was Curious George as part of a school project!  We had to take pictures with George anywhere we went...this will make for some great discussion at school!  It turns out my little guy had two pulled muscles in his neck and an ear infection on the same side. Yikes!  Needless to say, he is all better now and getting ready to go to Ocean City for Easter with Mommy and Daddy!  Thank goodness!  What will you be doing for Spring Break or for Easter?

Battle Blades Math Resource!

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with No comments
Hey there!  I am so EXCITED to share my newest resource with you!  It is called Battle Blades Addition and Subtraction Game and I KNOW the students are going to LOVE IT!!!  I just began Spring Break and I can't wait to go back to school to share this with my students (particularly the boys).  They are constantly battling with those other blades that shall remain nameless.  I thought, why not infuse their love of blade battling with a teaching resource!  If you ask me, I think this is a winning combination!  See for yourself by clicking the picture below.  Right now, the cost is $3.50 but with the two sales I am running (see post below) on TpT and TN, you will get it for CHEAPER if you buy it before April 4th!  Please comment below and let me know what you think!  Thanks!

Happy April Fools' Day, everyone!  My son has already tricked me by hiding a game and telling me it wasn't there!  Ahhhh, I wish we all had the sense of humor that four-year-olds have! What's not an April Fools' joke is my 20% OFF SALE on TeachersPayTeachers and my 50% OFF SALE on Teacher's Notebook!  (both will run through April 4th) I figured I would help out your day since most of you would be tricked at some point.  Do some shopping therapy and stock up on TEACHING RESOURCES!!!
