Have a Teaching Blog? Want More Traffic?

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 1 comment
Hey everybody!  If you have a teaching blog and want more traffic, I have a site for you!  It's TBTS or Teaching Blog Traffic School.  Since I joined less than a year ago, my numbers on my blog, Facebook page, Twitter, and TeachersPayTeachers store have QUADRUPLED!!!  It is a group of teachers who collaborate and share the latest ways to get your blogs and pages "out there" for others to view and interact with.  The site has just been redesigned to include forums, chats, training videos, and more!  Right now, Charity (the owner and author of The Organized Classroom Blog) is offering an introductory price of $49 by clicking the picture below.  Otherwise, you'll have to pay the full price after April 8 which is alot more.  I can tell you from experience that being a part of this group has been worth WAY more than what I paid and I will be with them for a long time to come.  So, if you've been thinking about sharing your projects with other teachers and extending your reach, check it out and let me know what you think!

Warm Hugs and Loving Smiles,

To Teach Spelling in First or Not?

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 6 comments
Our school system teaches first graders to "stretch spell" (see http://mrshess.org/stretchspell.html for details).  This is supposed to lead children to use conventional spelling, however, I am not really seeing this transition with my students as quickly as when we simply taught conventional spelling.  I am wondering which method of teaching spelling your school uses and what are your thoughts on this subject?  We use a word wall, interact with it, have sight word practice nightly, and yet, my students continue to misspell sight words using the "stretch spelling" method they learned in Kindergarten.  I am anxious to hear your thoughts on this topic and see if you have any ideas for helping first graders become SUPER SPELLERS! :0)

Hop Into Spring!

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 4 comments
Your students will hop right into Spring as they have fun with my newest resource, Spring Synonyms! This resource is directly aligned to the Common Core and provides students with practice in the area of word meanings. They will help Mrs. Hopper match the carrot words with their synonyms in her garden. There is also a basket and colored egg match activity which reinforces words with similar meanings. Students will have fun with word work while enjoying the cutest Spring activities!  Click below to grab this resource!

Relay for Life

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 3 comments
Hey everyone!  I am asking you to join me in the fight against cancer by donating to Relay for Life sponsored by the American Cancer Society.  I will be participating in a walk this summer and I need to raise $212 for my team.  I have $22 so far and I just began!  As teachers, I believe it is so important to help in the community in any way we can.  For me, this was the perfect way to get involved and to help others at the same time!  Any donation you can afford would help, even a DOLLAR! :-)  You could also help me spread the word by sharing this post to all of your teaching friends.  Thanks again and please comment when you make a donation!  Feel free to also comment and share a story you have about someone you know who has had cancer to get the word out for others.  Anyone who donates any amount of money and leaves a comment on this post will receive a free teaching resource of mine!

Click below to donate.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I love you all!
