Back to School Clip Art

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 7 comments
Looking for Back-to-School clip art?  I thought so!  I was, too!  Instead of picking through different clip art sets, I just made my own.  I tried to include everything a teacher might want when designing resources for back-to-school time.  This set has 23 images and is priced at $3.00  Check it out by clicking the pic below (you may find some freebies as you are perusing- I have a few you might like).  I am always open to feedback and suggestions!  I hope you enjoy my clip art! :0)

Back to School Fun!

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 7 comments

I was surfing the net as I ALWAYS do (yes, I sleep with my laptop under my pillow) when I came across this ADORABLE CRAFT!  All you need are some bottle caps, glitter glue, and crafty beads.  I thought about giving one to each student during the first week of school.  They can use it to express who they are or what they like.  Then, I would attach a magnet to the back and they can put it on the metal part of their desks or I can use them as magnets all year.  I just KNOW the students would LOVE seeing me use their designs to hang stuff up.  They would also make a great rainy day activity or Mother's Day gift.  You could put small letters or words on them yourself and have a quick and easy word work center.  How about using numbers and symbols to have students do math problems? The possiblities are endless!  I hope you try this craft and send me pics of what your students did so I can post them here at a later time.  To get you started, I made a FREE TEMPLATE with some designs for you at the end of this post! Just click on the link that says, "Bottlecap Designs" to download. Get crafting with these or your own designs! Send pics of the finished project to mrsbteaches2@gmail.com - subject- Bottle Cap Craft.  I am so excited to see how these turn out!  I, of course, will post my students' creations but you'll have to wait until we go back to school at the end of August!  Until then, have fun with creativity and learning! xxHugsxx, Leanne

Classroom Theme Decor

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 15 comments
Okay, so we all know the hottest thing on TeachersPayTeachers right now is classroom decor.  There are also many bloggers sharing their ideas for decorating your classroom at back-to-school time.  If you are out of ideas and want to get moving on a theme, check out my good friend, Lorraine Vaquez'z Classroom Theme Linky Party here...

For me, well, I am kind of like my students when it comes to decorating.  I want to use BRIGHT, VIBRANT colors that POP  and really get everyone's attention.  I looked around for a classroom theme set that fit what I wanted and I wasn't able to find one that was just right.  So, I went ahead and made my own.  I know I am biased but I think it is SOOOO DARN CUTE!!!  If you want to take a look or pick one up yourself, you'll find it by clicking the preview pic below.  You get 161 pages of COLORFUL CLASSROOM DECOR for just $8.99.  If you do happen to pick one up, be sure to leave feedback or comment here to let me know what you think.  Check it out here...

Happy decorating!  I'd love to hear about more themes you have used or would like to use in your classroom!

I’m Curious…

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 10 comments
Hey everyone!  I’m curious about what you think of the new poster I made to welcome students back in the fall.  One commenter recently asked for some help with making her students feel comfortable in the beginning of the school year.  I figured so many students love Curious George that I would laminate this poster and place it up as a sharing guide for the class.  I will most likely have students complete an “All About Me” sheet and then bring it to the carpet to share.  We will talk about Curious George and how he wants to get to know them.  I will bring my stuffed George along! :0)  For those who want to share aloud, they can use a plastic microphone I picked up for $1.00 from Target.  For those that don’t want to share, I will tell the class that person’s information will be hanging in the hallway for all to see.  So, I’m curious…what do you think?

Back from Vacation!

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 1 comment
Whew!  I am finally back from a fun-filled vacation to Hilton Head, SC!  It was fabulous and as always, I learned so much to share with my class!  I am eagerly awaiting the beginning of the school year (1 week and counting) and tomorrow, I will enter my new classroom for the first time.  First grade, here I come!  I must say, at this point I am going through my mental checklist of routines to be sure the year starts off well!  I would love it if you could share your favorite routines such as pencil sharpening, bathroom breaks, classroom jobs, etc.  How do you help your classroom run efficiently for the school year?  What techniques do you use that are a faithful "go-to" each year?

Incredible Dollar Buys at Target!

Edit Posted by The Wooden Shutter with 3 comments
Everyone MUST go to Target and look for these DOLLAR ITEMS!!!  I've always purchased a few things here and there for my classroom from Target's dollar section but now they have TEACHING MATERIALS!  For someone who is moving from 4th grade to 1st, this was a God-send!  I purchased the following items:
*colorful pocket charts (small size) for vocabulary words
*rainbow star stickers for my progress charts
*a cute star pointer
*colorful star and rainbow borders
*adorable crayon erasers which I will use as a first day gift
*bookmarks to go along with the erasers on the first day
*great reader book awards
*"Great Work" and "Super Star" large stickers
*desk name plates with alphabet and numbers
*a "Welcome" banner
*"Today is..., Yesterday was..., Tomorrow will be..." bulletin board set
*new monthly headers for my calendar
*2 Dr. Seuss notepads (Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham) for Dr. Seuss's birthday
*colorful congratulations awards
*cute tab dividers
I am soooo happy!  I know the Dollar Tree also has similar supplies but these were so darn cute AND they were at my favorite place...Target!

I have to share my last favorite purchase there which I may use either at home or at school.  It is modeled by my son (who thought I was funny sharing this with him) here:
Happy shopping!  Just make sure there are plenty of "dollars" in your pocket because they all add up when you're buying out the whole section!!! ;-)
